David Agsteribbe was born and raised in Cape Town and moved up to Jozi in the late 90’s to study to be a Chiropractor. While he was exposed to the vibrant Loop Street Scene and burgeoning Rave Culture that was arising in the city around the time, it was only in the throes of his tertiary education that Dave began to feel that his passion and his path might lie within music and he proceeded to teach himself to DJ off a set of SL1210’s and a 626. And so Dave Skinz was born.
He quickly moved into various small club residencies before getting involved in managing and running a handful of record stores when vinyl was still the format of choice. On the back of the retail store experience Dave helped establish a series of DJ Schools and helped set up and, manage an array of retail stores aimed at DJ’s and budding producers as well as introducing and helped teach accredited music production courses. With his huge product knowledge and experiance Dave is a perfect fit as the product specialist and brand manager for distributor Audiosure where he gets to works with brands such as Akai Professional, AKG Professional, Alesis, Xone DJ, Samson Audio, Hartke, and Gemini DJ.
Musically Dave Skinz is in the throes of putting together a live act called Ctrl_Alt_Del who perform live electronic music as a band in which he is the producer and instrumentalist, while still engaging in regular DJ gigs. Over his career he has played with an incredible array of the biggest names in the local and international scene while serving over 17 years of his career as a weekly resident in some of SA's most underground venues.
Dave is a distinctive personality whose unique viewpoint of the scene have led to him to consulting, mentoring and judging a host of prestigious DJ competitions such as the National DJ Battle and the world’s first DJ reality show on national broadcaster SABC1 called “1’s and 2’s” which has just completed its fifth season and has produced successful artists such as Prince Kaybee and DJ Mshega.
Overall Dave Skinz is a hugely respected figure in the South African Electronic Music scene and has a deep understanding of the many facets of the industry. He can connect with all levels of the industry and his knowledge and passion leaves a lasting impression wherever he goes.
When he's not working Skinz enjoys spending time with his family, producing music, learning instruments, tinkering with gear, console gaming and patiently counting the days till Arsenal finally win something other than the FA Cup.
